My Lucky Day

I had an amazing day yesterday.
My daughter had an appointment for The Ultrasound. The one that tells you a little boy is growing in there, or a little girl.
I volunteered to babysit Little Granddaughter.
We played dolls, and puzzles, and playdoh. We put on shoes and zipped up coats and went for a walk in her stroller.
Jasmine said "ducks? ducks?"
"No sweetie - it's too cold to feed the ducks today."

Back home, we ate our lunch and waited for Mom to come back. It wasn't long before Mom came bursting into the house.
"It's a Boy!"
"Allllllright - good news! Everything's o.k.?" Daughter nodded her head as she picked up her daughter and gave her a hug.

Hmmm - can Baby Boy wear pink sleepers and onesies?
Not a chance (I decided) I'll just have to stop at the mall and check out the newborn clothes.
Oooooh -how exciting!

Waved good-by and jumped into my car. Stopped to pick up a latte. I happened to look in the mirror. Eeeeeeks - is that me??
Maybe I'd better stop at Sephora and refresh my lipstick. For those of you who don't know Sephora, it's a well-known make-up store. They carry oodles of make-up - every brand you can think of. There are lots of testers- with disposable applicators, tissues - everything you'd need to try, try, try - so you'd buy, buy, buy.

I chose a rich wine lipstick. Ahhh - that's better. Might as well apply a little foundation while I'm here.

"Can I help you?"
"No, I'm o.k., thanks"
"Well that powder you're using needs to be applied with a brush - not a tissue"
"Oops"
"Here let me show you."

Obediently I followed her to the make-up application station.
"This must be your lucky day!" she enthused, "We'll do a full face."
What does that mean? She'd normally do half a face?
I sat on the high stool and watched her do her magic.
I must say I was impressed. She used brushes for everything:
concealer, liquid foundation, setting powder, blush.
A real artist.
When she was finished, I looked in the mirror. Wow - what a transformation!

"So, shall I take these to the cash for you?"
You've gotta be joking, I thought. I didn't come here for that. All I wanted was a quick dash of lipstick to liven up my face.
"No, but I'll take that brush."

Now on to Sears. I made a bee-line right to the baby department and got lost in all those sweet little blue onesies, teddy-bear blue sleepers, teeny-tiny blue socks, hats, blankets......when a youngish lady (dressed in an autumn costume) approached me. Obviously a store employee, she carried a basket over her arm. I peeked inside and saw colourful fall leaves and dark brown pinecones.
"Choose a leaf or pinecone and you will win a prize."

Hey - that sounds like a good idea. Sticking my hand inside the basket, I wondered what the prize would be. Samples of shampoo, or baby lotion, a box of chocolates, or maybe a trip around the world! My imagination was catching fire...
Withdrew my hand - I'd grabbed a pinecone.

"Oh a pinecone! This must be your lucky day! You win a 10 x 12 picture at our photo studio!"
Yuk - I don't want my picture taken.
"Can I give it to my daughter?"
"Sure, no problem."
What a disappointment. I walked away and once again immersed myself in soft, snuggly, powder blue, teeny tiny newborn clothes.

A few minutes later I heard a familiar female voice.

"Oh a leaf! This must be your lucky day! You win a 10 x 12 picture at our photo studio!"
I should have guessed. No matter what I'd picked, the "prize" would be the same. LOL!

Congratulations! That will make 2 boys and a girl? In years past when the little grandgirls were coming along, I would glance somewhat wistfully at the baby blue outfits. They are so precious. Oh to have a 'full face' done would be heaven to me now, but I am STILL peeling like crazy. My daughter told me I was saving lots of money doing my own facial 'peel'. :)

Glad you had a good day-you are so deserving!

Hi Wendy....a boy, how wonderful. That feeling you get when you see your daughter and get the good news.....it did lift me Wendy...tku for sharing a precious moment.....

I had my face done many years ago...for someone who doesn't wear much make up, I looked in the mirror and thought wheres the nearest circus....I am sure the clowns would have loved.....never again....

And as for prizes I have never won anything.........at age nine, I went to Sunday school each week.....we had to learn the Lords Prayer by heart and then you we would be given a beautiful bible........I learnt the prayer and would you believe they didn't have enough of the special bibles, so moi did not get one..........how encouraging......
A great post as always and made me smile..........

Congratulations Wendy! How exciting, a little boy.

It's amazing how much better I look after the cosmetic consultant does my make up than when I do my makeup!

Aren't those little blue baby clothes adorable now.
But I've had three chances at picking out blue clothes now I would love to get my hands on some pink ones.
LOL about that Sears trick, they were doing something similar last year around Christmas.
No matter what you chose you ended up with the same *prize.*

Bear((( )))

Congratulations on the new grandson-to-be--how exciting! It's so much fun shopping for baby clothes.

I thought maybe you'd show us a photo of the new glamourous Wendy, LOL. The last time I had a makeover it was for my son's wedding, and I did buy several of the products they used on me. But then I didn't want to use them everyday, so they wound up drying out/spoiling in my cabinet:)

I'm not a "lucky" person--I never win anything. This sounds, though, like the only prize I do win sometimes:)

A Half face now that is a great thought.
It also sound like you had a wonderful day shopping too.

Coffee is on.

Hi Beckie - sorry you're having so much trouble with your skin. I hope you find relief soon!
No, this is baby #2 for my daughter. Jasmine is her first.
You are probably thinking of my son's baby boy.
So, a girl and a boy and hopefully, she'll stop at 2. She has problems with edema and high blood pressure when pregnant.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Mimi - yup, they're fun alright!

Hi Marmee - it was a high energy day alright. I treasure those days. Makes me feel 25 again!

Hi Jeanmac - yup next february. Why does my daugher insist on having her babies in the winter? Jasmine was born in january and this little one is due in february.

Hi Chery,
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I ordered pizza for lunch for the two of us when she came back with her news. She (my daughter) showed me the ultrasound pics, but I can't make head or tail of them. We never had ultrasound in our day.

Oh, I've also had make-up done and looked like a clown. Swore never to do it again. But always do. Often I absolutely hate it, but sometimes I like it.

So sorry about the bible when you were little. How encouraging indeed! Somebody should have made sure there was enough for everybody. Well, maybe in your Crone years you will win the lottery!

Hi Grammy - yippee - a girl in January. How nice. Now can we get our kids (in-laws) to produce in summer? Or spring? Or even fall? Much better time of year. But, never mind as long as they are healthy. Hugs back at ya!

Hi Annette - thanks for your kindness. This will make 5 grandboys. There are 2 grandgirls at the moment. I have 3 children.
I agree. Sometimes they are very talented at putting on make-up, but sometimes not. I don't spend much time in the morning putting on my make-up. Just a dash of lipstick and some concealer. Mascara runs, so I don't bother any more.

Hi BearNaked - well, next one will be a girl. We'll think pink for you!
I guess I should have talked to you before going to Sears!!

Oh Rose, that sounds so much like me. Not this time, though, but I do the same - buy the products and
"save" them in a drawer for Special Occasions - which rarely come, or I forget and end up throwing away expensive stuff.
I'm glad somebody else does this. LOL!

Hi Pepperlady - thanks for stopping in. I'll have a cappuchino, please!

Congratulations. Hope things go well for the remainder of the pregnancy. btw...my cousin in NB was told she was having a girl and was shocked when her son was born. He is now 6 years old. It is easier to mistake a girl than a boy though.

My best wishes for 'mum-to-be' and her second child! We all know that she can 'do' girls very good, I am curious how she is 'doing' a boy! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

And of course congratulations to you also Wendy, soon-three-time-grandmother!

I LOVED shopping for babies, of course I got carried away everytime and couldn't believe the mountains of shopping bags I managed to gather within a short space of time. LOL LOL LOL

Hi Ruth - thanks for stopping by. I hope she didn't buy all girl clothes! Guess it really doesn't matter, as long as the baby is healthy.

Hi Carin - thanks for your good wisihes. Oh, I know how easy it is to buy mountains of baby clothes. It's so much fun!
This will be grandchild #7! My youngest son has 4 (and his wife is pregnant). My daughter is the one in the post (expecting #2). And my eldest son has 1 baby boy. The one I'm holding in the pic of me.

Congratulations on your new grandson! I bet you can't wait to meet him!

Hi Allie - thanks for stopping by. I actually had a phone call this afternoon from the Sears photocenter. The woman said "hello, Mrs. Pinecone?" I couldn't stop laughing. The lady who gave me my prize had written under my name - pinecone. So the woman who was phoning to confirm the apointment (I cancelled) must have looked at my name and seen pinecone underneath. LOL!
