Delightful Dahlia

Giant dahlia bud closed up tight. What is that drop? We hadn't had rain that night. There was no dew on the grass. Could it be bug juice? Magical faerie drops?

These giant dahlias are Hubby's favourite flower. This one is so sunny, it brightens up our day.
Have a good week everyone.....

Oh, I love Dahlias. I can't seem to grow them, though. Yours are lovely and The color is so delicate. I wonder what that drop is? Maybe it is fairie sprinkled.

What beautiful pics! I love dahlias, I used to plant them but the squirrels ate them so I gave up. Maybe I will plant some this fall. They bloom in Feb & March in my area.

Sigh, I did not plant any dahlias this year. They are so beautiful and showy--I wish I had. Great pictures, Wendy; I like seeing the way the flower opens up. This one certainly does look like a bright spot of sunshine.

Lovely pictures Wendy. I'm so glad you were able to post them. The Dahlias are beautiful. I will have to give a try to growing them next year.

Your garden looks so green and healthy. And the gnome looks quite at home there. I hope to have a garden as lush as your's someday.

Beautiful photos of your dahlias.
Hopefully next spring and summer I will get back to gardening here.
When flowers like this appear, don't you agree it is worth it?

I love the way you have caught the flower opening with a sequence of photos. Lovely.
And the droplet? definitely Faerie pee.

Hi Beckie, I grow dahlias in pots. Our soil is so poor here that I do mostly container gardening on my back deck. That drop has gotta be magic from the faeries. The bud did open!

Hi Annette - oh those pesky squirrels! They seem to eat our most precious bulbs and fruit, if we're not careful. You're lucky to have flowers blooming that early in the year. Hope yours grow well next spring!

Hi Rose - well we can't plant everything all the time. I wish we could! Next year if it works for you, then I hope your dahlias will do well. It was fun taking pics of the dahlia opening up. And I do love that bright sunny yellow!

Hi Mary, thanks for the compliments. My garden is all container - on my back deck. The gnome is swinging from a branch in the cedar hedge that surrounds our deck.
These giant dahlias I saved from last year. I just dug up the tubers or rhizomes, I'm not sure which, wrapped them loosely in newspaper and kept them in the garage. I didn't know if they'd even grow this year. But they did!

Hi Bear naked - thanks for the compliments. I do love my garden. Hopefully, yours will be beautiful next year. Can you make teddy bears bloom? You never know!

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for your kind words. Isn't it nice to be able to associate a flower with a person? My mother loved african violets and had them blooming in the house all winter. In summer, she planted lots and lots of flowers, but one year bought the hibiscus that I still have. So, I associate african violets and hibiscus with Mom. BTW - her hibiscus bloomed only once this year - on her birthday. I did a post about that and I've been waiting and waiting to see if there are any more blooms. So far - none, but it's still early yet. Some hibs bloom in the fall.

I hope your Dad has some dahlias in his garden.

Hi shammickite,
Oh thanks - fairie pee - well, at least it made the dahlia open!
