Fudge cake and strawberries & cream frappuccino

I'm pampering myself. I've come down with a Cold. Not a very bad one, but it's making me feel yukky.
Whether bad or not we have a protocol set up.

Hubby sleeps downstairs and I sleep upstairs. He prepares his own meals (yippee), makes his own tea and coffee. We wash hands often and use separate towels. We try to stay away from each other as much as possible.

So far, so good.

I made myself a big pot of chicken soup. Nothing like good homemade chicken soup to chase away Cold evils. And fudge cake with chocolate peppermint ice cream. I am thoroughly spoiling myself.

Yesterday, I got up from the couch and decided to go to a wonderful garden center. It takes about 45 minutes to drive there, so most of the time, I end up at the local ones for my annuals, earth, etc.

But this one is filled with exotic plants. I love walking through their greenhouses, drooling over their lush, vividly coloured flowers. Even just the smell of earth and plant fertilizer makes me sigh with contentment.
If I ever win the lotto, I will spend it all on plants!

I bought some geraniums, inpatients, snapdragons, and another dahlia. I almost bought a fuchsia-coloured bougainvillea. It was sitting in a basket, off to the side - away from the other plants.

I walked closer to inspect it. Looked at the tag and noticed it was slightly cheaper than others. Not discounted or marked own, just less expensive.
Hmmm - what's wrong with this picture?
That's when I noticed some little white bugs all over a portion of the plant. Not the whole plant, just a wee little bit. Maybe I could cut that bit off.

Forget it - I'm not spending $40.o0 on a basket of bougainvillea only to have it die. But - maybe I could wash away the insects, instead of cutting away some of the plant (which would spoil the shape anyway).
My good sense won out and I decided to leave it behind. Maybe the owners had it in seclusion - and it really was not for sale.

So to console myself on the way home, I stopped at my favourite Starbuck's and got a decadent, delicious, loaded-with-calories (which I certainly don't need), strawberries & cream frappuccino.
Best medicine I know to chase away Cold evils.

Poor bougainvillea, all buggy like you are, but no little BV, no home for you, no strawberries & cream frappuccino, just ongoing quarantine down at the garden center.

What a wonderful, indulgent day, but maybe it's just as well for your waistline that you don't come down with a cold very often.

I like your way of taking care of your illness. LOL I hope you are able to keep it away from hubby.

The only thing I've heard about the driver is that he is in critical condition with burns over much of his body...a 54 year old gentleman. I just can't imagine the horror of being burned.

I lived and worked in Haiti for three and a half years. I was a school teacher for children of English speaking missionaries. A ownderful time in my life. I was still single...I have many fond memories from there.

Do you all get Nickelodeon on Canadian TV? The Wonder Pets are on that channel. They are so cute. Yes, indeed, I'm counting the days until Ella comes. David says that she is really saying so many words now...I'll have lots of pictures.

Sounds like my kind of treatment for illness!

Comfort foods- now there's a subject we could spend hours on. Isn't is amazing how they can makes us feel better. Glad you indulged yourself, we often deny ourselves the very things that bring us joy. Why, I wonder? Sounds like an enjoyable few hours pant browsing.

I saw your comment on another blog and wanted to stop by and say hello.

I love all the plants you mentioned, the snapdragons in my yard are at the end of their season due to heat. I will cut them back tomorrow. I put it off as long as possible.

I hope you feel better asap.

Hi Wendy....next time you go to see lovely exotics and have strawberries and cream frappuccino, give us a call.
I could just do with that sometimes myself.
Glad you had a fun time and indulged yourself a little.

Best wishes.

Thanks Judy,
I knew I could count on you to be honest LOL!

Thanks for the update, Bev, from your blog. No, I can't imagine being burned like that. The poor man. I do hope he survives.

Will look into nickelodeon t.v. - I will have to ask my grandkids.

So far, Hubby is o.k. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Hi Jeanmac, I couldn't agree with your more.

Beckie - yes - comfort foods bring back good memories, usually of childhood or simply just giving yourself the attention for a bit. I don't often indulge because I am trying to keep my wt. down. Never had a problem until menopause. We won't go there right now. LOL!

Hi Annette - thanks for stopping by. You're at the end of your snapdragon season already? Yikes - I hope they make a comeback (bloom twice in the season).
Yes, I am feeling better thanks. This was just a light cold - but we're still maintaining our "cold protocol" for another few days, so Hubby doesn't pick it up.

Hey Cheryl,
I will certainly call you for an exotic plant afternoon and a strawberries & cream frap! Would be lots of fun.
We are having hot, tropical weather here now and the flowers love it. Hope your rain has stopped and you can enjoy the sun.
