Happy Father's Day

To all the wonderful fathers everywhere - Happy Father's Day !

Thought of my Dad today.
Called my 2 sons and 1 son-in-law to wish them Happy Father's Day.
Even after 12 years, it still feels funny to be calling my sons on this day.

For Son #1 - it's his first. A very special day.
For Son #2 - his 12th!!
For Son-in-Law - his 2nd.

It's like sliding down the generation scale, instead of looking up (like you do as a child).
For years, it was only my Dad. Then Hubby. And that still felt fine.

But now......
Oh well, I guess it will be even stranger one day, when I call my grandsons to wish them Happy Father's Day!
Yikes!

You are so right. I have to remember each year that our son-in-laws are 'fathers' too. And they are such good dads! We are so very proud of the way they our with our granddaughters.

Wendy, you are so thoughtful to call your sons on this day. I don't always think to call mine, though both of them usually stop by to wish their Dad a happy Father's Day. I, too, am very proud of the wonderful fathers they have become.

Just read your Sat. post about the "lasagna" recipe. I've seen that name mentioned on another gardening blog, but she didn't go into detail. I tried something similar in a small area this year, and it does work! The "recipe" I used didn't involve quite so many steps, but you had to wait a month or two before planting. Thanks for printing this!

Lovely post Wendy...
I popped to see my old Dad and took him out for a while. He is getting frail but he still manages. I treasure him while he is still with us.

Hi Rick - yummy! Free dairy-queen sundaes - sounds good.

Hi Muum - thanks for stopping by.

Hi Pete - your dad sounds like mine used to be. Never mind - at least you two connected.

Hi Annette - you have all that to look forward to - lucky you!

Hi Rose - well it is my eldest son's very first father's day. He is 36 and their baby is 6 months old. Funny that it turned out that way. He being the last to have children. And my youngest son started when he was 18. Youngest son has a 12-year-old!
I guess it's hard to think of them as fathers and it's the letting go I'm having trouble with. Anyway, it was nice to talk to each of them and hear how they celebrated Father's Day with their families.

Hi Chery, I am glad you were able to spend time with your father. It's nice to hear you treasure each moment you have together. And I am sure your dad treasures the time with you!

Hi Nature Girl,
I am glad you could tell your mother about your grandson. I have a memory (12 years now), of placing my first grand-child into my mother's arms. She had had a stroke about 9 months before and was not quite "right in her mind". I'll still remember her awed and tender smile when she held Kaitlin.
The next day, she had forgotten, but at least we shared that special moment together. And this was the only grandchild she lived to hold.
